This is an advanced, in-person training programme designed to strengthen the technical understanding and practical readiness of personnel involved in BSL-3 operations, oversight, engineering support, and facility management.

The programme combines lecture-based teaching, facilitated discussions, practical exercises, and a half-day visit to an operating BSL-3 facility.

Course Overview

BSL-3 facilities require effective biorisk management, appropriate administrative and engineering controls, and personnel who understand the operational requirements of working within a high-containment environment.

This 2.5-day programme provides participants with an opportunity to explore key technical and operational aspects of BSL-3 biosafety and biosecurity.

The programme covers biorisk management and risk assessment, administrative controls and SOPs, PPE selection and use, emergency response and spill management, engineering controls, facility performance, and certification principles.

Participants will also take part in practical exercises and discussions before visiting an operating BSL-3 facility to observe facility systems and operational practices.
