Course Overview

Designing and planning a biorisk management system can be challenging even for staff with relevant knowledge and experience. It is essential for staff to develop a biosafety plan that is both relevant to their unique context and sustainable in the long term.

In this course, participants will be supported through the process of developing a biorisk management plan that incorporates the specific requirements and biohazards involved in their work. The course demonstrates how participants can use the plan-do-check-act cycle, including on-the-ground approaches to construct workflows, balance productivity considerations, and modify systems for continuous improvement. Participants will learn pragmatic strategies to perform consistent reviews and solve problems within a biorisk management system. Through activities, discussions, and role-play simulations, participants will explore relevant case studies to spark valuable discussions.

This course is suitable for staff who have prior knowledge in biosafety management, particularly in industries such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and bio-research.

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Construct effective, long-term solutions with workable, sustainable biosafety management planning and reporting
  • Think and act holistically to apply biosafety frameworks to all aspects of operations for a complete and comprehensive approach
  • Develop proficiency in performing internal audits, conducting accident investigations, and charting ongoing compliance
  • Foster an ongoing safety culture by preparing ahead to manage incidents, and cultivate learning, and spark positive change
